Freshman midfielder Ellie Hudson-Heck headlined four College of Wooster women's lacrosse players to be selected to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Associaton All-Great Lakes Region Team, as the breakout newcomer was made a first-team selection, while classmates Kari Martyniak, Clare Nelson-Johnson, and Molly Sennett were each named second-teamers, the organization announced Tuesday.

Hudson-Heck didn't waste time making a name for herself this spring, as she scored five goals in only her second career game against Washington & Jefferson College (March 14), and went on to lead the Fighting Scots and tie for fifth in the North Coast Athletic Conference with 46 goals on the season. She recorded hat tricks in seven games, including another five-goal effort against Allegheny College (April 2), and most memorably, a six-goal performance in Wooster's win over Wittenberg University in the NCAC Tournament semifinals May 2. In addition to her scoring, Hudson-Heck added nine assists as part of a 55-point season, and was also a strong contributor in groundballs (42) and caused turnovers (20).

Martyniak, a senior defender, had the best season of her career this spring, finishing second on the team in both groundballs (43) and caused turnovers (26) while starting all 18 games in the backfield. She helped Wooster hold six opponents to five goals or less on its way to finishing third in the league in goals allowed per game (8.93). Martyniak picked up a season-high six groundballs in the Scots' signature victory at Wittenberg.

Nelson-Johnson is all-region for the second year in a row, as she was also a second-team selection a season ago. The senior attacker finished eighth in the NCAC, and just behind Hudson-Heck, with 43 goals on the year. She exploded for a career-high eight points on two occasions, with a six-goal, two-assist outing against Sewanee (April 7), and a seven-goal, one-assist outburst against DePauw University (April 13). Nelson-Johnson hit a career milestone against Ohio Wesleyan University (April 24), as she scored her 150th goal, becoming one of just seven players to reach that mark. Ultimately, she moved into fifth-place all-time with 155 goals. Also noteworthy, Nelson-Johnson was among the team-leaders in draw controls (47) and groundballs (24).

Sennett also lands on the all-region team for the second straight year (second-team 2012), after improving in nearly every statistical category as Wooster's defensive anchor. Sennett led the team in groundballs (44) and caused turnovers (31), with the latter tying for the conference lead, and also further developed as an offensive threat with 33 points coming on 20 goals and 13 assists. In a critical game to determine the fourth and final entrant into the NCAC Tournament, Sennett helped Wooster edge out Oberlin College (April 27) with a season-high six caused turnovers and five groundballs. Offensively, she had two hat tricks and a career-high four assists against DePauw University (April 13).
