The College of Wooster women's lacrosse team was named an Academic Squad by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association, and in addition, individuals Shawna Ferris, Alison Schlothauer, and Lauren Vargo were selected to the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll, the organization announced Thursday.

The Scots were one of just 86 teams across NCAA Div. III to be recognized as an Academic Squad in 2013, which requires a team to have at least a 3.00 cumulative grade-point-average.

Ferris, who also earned First-Team Academic All-America honors, graduated in the spring with a degree in communication studies and a minor in political science. Schlothauer, a junior last year, is majoring in communication sciences and disorders with an education minor, while Vargo also graduated in the spring with a geology degree.

Only 51 institutions had three or more representatives on the Academic Honor Roll, and Wooster was the only school in the North Coast Athletic Conference to accomplish the feat. To make the honor roll, a student-athlete has to be nominated by their coach and then chosen to receive the accolade by the IWLCA.
