WOOSTER, Ohio - Sophomore Helena Enders’ game-winner 1:23 into the second overtime capped an exiting finish during The College of Wooster women’s lacrosse team’s 12-11 win over Sewanee, The University of the South on Sunday afternoon at John P. Papp Stadium.

Enders, who had a free-position shot stopped by Sewanee (3-4) goalkeeper Brianna Young at the end of the first extra session, buried her second game-winning attempt off of the feed from senior Jamie Wren-Jarvis.

The action really picked up in the final minute of regulation when the two teams combined for three goals in the final 30 seconds.

First, the Tigers’ Relly King made an incredible desperation goal with 30 ticks left from 15 yards out that caught a piece of a Wooster (2-0) defenders’ stick on the way into the goal. The tally tied the contest at 10.

Moments later, Sewanee’s Brooke Winfield won the ensuing draw control and fed King to put the Tigers up 11-10 with 21 seconds remaining.

Wooster answered right back gaining possession via a draw control from first-year Emma Lawrence. The Fighting Scots’ chance came on the eight-meter when senior Abby Szlachta was fouled with 8 ticks left. The senior netted her team-leading seventh goal of the season with 6.7 seconds left to knot the contest back up at 11.

The excitement continued into overtime where both teams had key opportunities to win the contest.

Wooster's big chance came right after the two teams switched ends as the Scots had a shot attempt blocked by the Tigers, prior to losing possession for an illegal procedure.

Sewanee charged down the field moments later and sailed two shots attempts wide of the goal prior to Enders’ free-position attempt at the end of the stanza.

Wooster came out of the gate quick in regulation, rattling off a trio of goals before the contest was three minutes old.

First, senior Ellie Hudson-Heck connected just 39 ticks into the contest. Of note, the goal moved Hudson-Heck into the top-10 in program history for career goals.

Hudson-Heck’s early strike was backed up by a free-position tally from Szlachta and a strike from Heather Honn at the 27:13 mark.

The three-goal opening swing was short lived as the Tigers clawed back to tie the contest at four with 16:32 left in the first half. Neither team pulled ahead by three goals again until Wooster had a second three-goal swing early in the second half.

Hudson-Heck broke a 7-7 tie, finishing a feed from Megan Healy with 22:50 left in the second half. Hudson-Heck pushed the lead back to three at the 20:03 mark with her team-high fourth goal of the contest.

Wooster’s defenders had an impressive day with major contributions towards the Scots’ 33 groundballs and 17 caused turnovers. Individually Healey finished with six and four respectively in the two statistical categories, while Mara Sheban added six groundballs and three caused turnovers of her own.

Also of note, the Scots held the Tigers to just 13-for-30 on clear attempts, while turning in a 17-for-21 clip of their own.

King led all scorers with five goals.

Wooster is idle until its spring break trip when the Scots play a trio of games in Oregon, beginning with a March 16 tilt at George Fox University (0-1).
