In its first of three games in the Pacific Northwest, The College of Wooster women's lacrosse team broke away from George Fox University with a 7-2 run during the second half en route to an 18-12 victory on Wednesday afternoon at Newberg, Ore.

The two teams seemingly traded goals throughout the first half of play as well as during the opening minutes of the second, then Wooster (3-0) quickly turned a 10-9 lead into 14-10 and later steadily built a six-goal cushion. Kick starting the game-changing stretch was Ellie Hudson-Heck, who scored a pair of goals, both assisted by Jamie Wren-Jarvis, just 21 seconds apart, and after the Bruins answered, Emma Lawrence and Abby Szlachta added back-to-back tallies for the 14-10 advantage. Those four goals by the Fighting Scots came in a 5:44 span.

George Fox (3-1) scored to pull within three before Wooster's defense stepped up by allowing just one more goal the last 19 minutes of play. During that time, the Scots forced a number of turnovers, including two caused by Megan Myers, and limited the Bruins to 10 shots, six of which were saved by first-year goalie Shelby Wilcox.

While the defense raised its level, the Scots extended their run to 7-2 with goals by Megan Healy, Laura Papp, and Szlachta, the last pushing the score to 17-11 with 9:41 remaining, which just about sealed the outcome.

Wooster only trailed once in the game at 2-1, but also was unable to gain more than a two-goal lead throughout the opening half, and went into halftime tied 8-8.

The Scots' dominant second half featured three goals and two assists by Hudson-Heck, giving her a seven-point game (4 goals, 3 assists). Szlachta nearly matched her output with four goals and two assists, while first-year Jordan Stone netted three for her first collegiate hat trick.

Wren-Jarvis also had an explosive offensive performance with five assists and six points – both new career highs for the senior from California. Also notching multi-point outings were Michaela Lawrence with two goals and Heather Szymanski with a goal and an assist.

Wooster will be right back in action on St. Patrick's Day, taking on Linfield College (0-4) at 9 p.m. EDT.
