Senior Ellie Hudson-Heck matched a program record with eight goals as The College of Wooster women's lacrosse team improved to 5-0 for the first time since 1977 with a 16-8 win over Whitman College at Newberg, Ore. on Sunday.

Hudson-Heck, the first Fighting Scot to net eight goals in a game since W Association Hall of Famer Meg Wood did so against Kenyon College in 1994, is just the fourth student-athlete in program history to record eight goals in a contest. Even more impressively, the senior standout needed just nine shot attempts in the contest, with her final eight finding the net.

Wooster quickly jumped out to a 4-0 lead, aided largely by a hat trick from Hudson-Heck before the contest was five minutes old. Fellow senior Jamie Wren-Jarvis played a major factor in the offense's fast start recording assists on two of Hudson-Heck's early scores.

The Scots pushed their lead to five at the half with Heather Szymanski finding Abby Szlachta with 7:13 remaining in the stanza, before scoring her second goal of the day with 2:26 left on the clock.

Wooster really pulled away midway through the second half when the Scots scored three unanswered goals to push the lead to seven (13-6), including two from Hudson-Heck.

Szymanski had a strong day offensively, finishing with four goals, while assisting on two others for a six-point outing. Michaela Lawrence also tallied two goals in the contest.

Wooster more than doubled-up (27-14) on Whitman (1-6) in the groundball department. Leading the way were Hudson-Heck, Emma Lawrence, and Mara Sheban, who all scooped up five groundballs each. Lawrence also controlled a team-best five draws, while causing three turnovers on the day.

Lindsay Schwartz led Whitman with five goals and a game-high seven draws.

Next, Wooster opens a stretch of five straight home contests when the Scots welcome Div. II Ursuline College (3-3) to John P. Papp Stadium for a 4 p.m. tilt on Thursday.
