WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster women's lacrosse team had another quick start and pushed its season-opening win streak to six games, as the Fighting Scots began their five-game homestand with a 16-5 win over NCAA Div. II Ursuline College on Thursday afternoon at John P. Papp Stadium.

Wooster, which last started 6-0 in 1977, scored six times in the contest's opening eight minutes.

Michaela Lawrence played a big role in the early barrage, netting three of her career-best and game-high five goals, including two on free-position attempts. Abby Szlachta also helped set the tone with a pair of helpers prior to her 16th goal of the season.

Ellie Hudson-Heck, the reigning Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association National Player of the Week, added two of those first six tallies and finished with a hat trick on the day.

Later in the first half, the Scots pushed their lead to 9-0 when sophomore Helena Enders found Szlachta.

Ursuline (3-4) finally got on the board via a Maddie Kipp free-position score with 7:44 left in the frame, and she went on to net three of the visitor's five goals.

Wooster extended its advantage to a game-high 11 at the start of the second half, as Lawrence pumped in her fifth tally.

Notable, sophomore Mara Sheban scored her first goal of the season with 10:25 remaining in the contest, part of a 4-1 stretch by the Scots to close the game.

Wooster's relentless pressure defense helped force 38 turnovers, 25 of which were credited as caused turnovers – tied for the 10th-most by an NCAA Div. III team this season. Hudson-Heck led the way individually with four, while Megan Healy, Megan Myers, Sheban, and Szlachta all had three.

The Scots also scooped up 38 groundballs to the Arrows' 25, with Healy and Hudson-Heck recording six apiece, and they dominated the draw controls, winning 17, including all 12 during the first half. Michaela Lawrence collected six, while Emma Lawrence backed her up with five.

Ursuline's Lauren Cole made 12 saves.

Next, Wooster opens up North Coast Athletic Conference play with a 1 p.m. tilt against Hiram College (3-3, 0-0 NCAC) on Saturday.
