WOOSTER, Ohio - Senior Ellie Hudson-Heck's goal with 5:38 remaining in the first half jump-started a 6-0 run to close the first half as The College of Wooster women's lacrosse team topped visiting Kenyon College 12-8 on Saturday afternoon at Carl Dale Field.

Wooster (8-1, 2-0 North Coast Athletic Conference), who trailed 5-1 prior to Hudson-Heck's goal, cuts its deficit to one after a pair of goals from Abby Szlachta, who later put the Fighting Scots' on top 6-5 with 2:38 remaining in the half.

Wooster's strong end to the first half was a big key in Saturday's win over Kenyon.

Junior Heather Szymanski, who scored seven goals in the conference opener last week, added a pair of tallies, both of which were part of a three-goal onslaught over a span of 43 seconds. She later scored a pair in the second half, the latter of which put Wooster up 12-7 with just over six minutes left in the contest.

Hudson-Heck's free-position goal with 14:12 remaining in the game marked her 172nd career goal, moving her into a tie with W Association Hall of Fame Betty Title for second in the program annals.

Kenyon (6-2, 0-2 NCAC) opened up a 4-0 advantage just past the midway point of the first half, a clip that was highlighted by back-to-back strikes off the stick of Jane Symmes.

Szlachta and Szymanski each recorded four goals on the afternoon while Hudson-Heck had a four-point outing with two goals and a pair of assists.

Defensively, Isabel Perman led the way with eight saves and four groundballs. Michaela Lawrence also scooped up four groundballs on the afternoon.

Of note, the game pitted Hudson-Heck against her younger sister Cassie Hudson-Heck, who is a first-year for the Ladies. The junior Hudson-Heck finished with two goals.

The Ladies were paced by Kat Englert's three goals and Symmes game-high eight groundballs.

Wooster closes out its five-game homestand with a 6 p.m. tilt against Allegheny College (4-5, 0-0 NCAC) on Wednesday.
