WOOSTER, Ohio - The College of Wooster women's lacrosse team rallied from a two-goal deficit late in the second half, but could not cap the comeback bid as Allegheny College scored with 1:23 remaining in overtime to take a 16-15 North Coast Athletic Conference contest on Wednesday evening at John P. Papp Stadium.

Allegheny's (5-5, 1-0 NCAC) Shelby Piper fired her team-high fourth goal of the contest into the net in transition for the game-winner.

The Gators also had a prime opportunity to win it at the end of regulation, but Wooster's (8-2, 2-1 NCAC) Isabel Perman was able to deflect aside Allegheny's game-winning attempt.

Wooster made it a one-goal contest at 15-14 when Mara Sheban connected on a free-position goal with 4:44 remaining.

Just over four minutes later, Jamie Wren-Jarvis broke free in transition and was able to navigate around the edge of the crease to push her game-tying shot past the Gators' 'keeper.

Both teams advanced deep into the opposing squads' defensive ends in the extra session, but neither team maintained possession long enough to fire off a shot attempt prior to Piper's game-winner.

At the game's onset, Ellie Hudson-Heck and Michaela Lawrence helped stake Wooster to an early 3-1 advantage with Hudson-Heck scoring two goals, and Lawrence netting one and assisting on another, all within the first eight minutes of the game.

Next, Allegheny chomped right back with a 4-0 swing to make it a 5-3 contest with 15:41 remaining.

Later, Lawrence continued her strong start to the night with back-to-back tallies, knotting the game up at five with 14:09 left in the frame.

Allegheny answered with another 4-0 swing prior to Heather Szymanski cutting Wooster's deficit down to two at 10-8.

McKenzie Bell pushed the Gators' lead back to three just before the half.

Wooster had a burst of momentum in the early stages of the second half, with Hudson-Heck playing a lead role, with two of her game-high six goals coming during the Scots' 4-0 run to open the half. Abby Szlachta found a wide-open, cutting Szymanski to cape the run, putting Wooster up 12-11 with 21:46 remaining in regulation.

The two teams traded goals prior to Allegheny stringing three-straight together prior to Wooster's late rally.

Wynn Boehmcke and Lawrence led the defensive unit with seven groundballs each, while Hudson-Heck gathered in six draw controls to go along with five groundballs and four caused turnovers.

Notable, Hudson-Heck now ranks third in career groundballs and fourth in draw controls in games since both became officially-tracked NCAA statistics in 2000.

Allegheny's Jessie Thiessen stood out for the Gators with 11 draws and five groundballs.

Wooster opens a four-game road-swing with a 6:30 p.m. tilt at Ohio Wesleyan University (5-4, 0-1 NCAC) on Friday.
