The College of Wooster women's lacrosse team scored the first two goals of the contest, but a late 4-0 run by host Ohio Wesleyan University propelled the Battling Bishops to a 9-6 Friday evening win at Selby Stadium in Delaware, Ohio.
Wooster (8-3, 2-2 North Coast Athletic Contest) brook through offensively on an extra-player opportunity when Heather Honn fired in the game's first goal with 26:20 remaining in the first half.
Just over six minutes later, Honn set up Abby Szlachta for the latter's 28th goal of the season that at the time pushed the lead to two.
Ohio Wesleyan halved the lead at the 15:13 mark of the period on a free-position shot, and later pulled within one at 3-2, again on a free-position shot, with 11:41 in the half. The Bishops' second free-position shot sparked a 3-0 run that saw Ohio Wesleyan take a 4-3 lead with 2:23 in the period.
Honn knotted the score at four at the half, connecting on a free-position shot with 43 ticks left in the opening stanza.
Both teams 'keepers really stepped up in the second half with Ohio Wesleyan's Kelly Coffyn and Wooster's Isabel Perman each coming up with four saves prior to the Bishops' Taylor Weis punching one through with 16:41 remaining in the contest, marking the half's first score.
Wooster's Heather Szymanski countered 34 seconds later on a free-position shot.
Ohio Wesleyan surged ahead with a three-goal outburst over a span of 1:27 to take an 8-5 lead with just over eight minutes left, and later tacked on an insurance goal.
Notable, Szymanski netted her 30th goal of the season with 14 ticks left in the contest.
Perman matched her season-high with 12 saves in goal, while Wynn Boehmcke paced the defense with four groundballs.
Ohio Wesleyan was led offensively by Weis' three goals, while Kelsey Bowling gathered in five draw controls.
Ohio Wesleyan finished the night ahead on the stat sheet in shots (30-26), groundballs (21-20), and draws (10-7).
Next, Wooster travels to Denison University (4-5, 1-0 NCAC) for a 6 p.m. tilt on Wednesday.
