The College of Wooster women's lacrosse team scored the first 12 goals, and reached the 20-goal mark for the third time this season, as the Fighting Scots topped host Franciscan University of Steubenville 20-5 on Tuesday afternoon at Steubenville, Ohio.

Wooster (9-4), who was playing in its non-conference finale, needed just 1:22 to get on the board in the first half, when Michaela Lawrence was on the receiving end of a Helena Enders assist.

Next, Heather Szymanski really helped the Fighting Scots gain separation as the junior had a hand in each of the next three goals. First, she set up Ellie Hudson-Heck with 24:19 remaining, and then the junior netted an unassisted tally less than two minutes later. Then, Szymanski helped push Wooster's advantage to four when she found Abby Szlachta with 19:59 reaming.

From there, Wooster struck quickly, including three tallies in the course of a minute to push the lead to 6-0. Szlachta's goal with 19:59 left jump-started the trio of quick strikes.

The Scots closed out their 12-0 opening run with six different players (Hudson-Heck, Szymanski, Emma Lawrence, Laura Papp, Mara Sheban, and Szlachta) scoring the final six goals of the stretch.

Notable, Wooster's 13 first-half goals came on just 22 shot attempts. The Scots' accuracy improved in the second half with seven of the 11 shot attempts finding the back of the net.

Wooster opened the second frame with three unanswered goals with Enders netting a pair in the first nine minutes. Later in half, the Scots had another three-goal burst with markers from Szlachta, Hudson-Heck and Papp.

Offensively, Hudson-Heck and Szlachta each scored four goals on the day, and the senior duo also combined for five assists. Other big offensive performances were turned in by Enders and Papp, who each had two goals and three assists to their credit. Of note, nine different Scots scored a goal on the afternoon.

Defensively, Hudson-Heck scooped up five groundballs and caused four turnovers, while Emma Lawrence won a team-high six draw controls.

The Scots also recorded more turnovers (18-16) and won more draw controls (16-11) than the Barons (7-4).

Lauren Noce led the Barons with two goals, while Mary Krolicki filled up the stat sheet with six draw controls and five groundballs.

Next, Wooster travels to DePauw University (4-8, 2-2 North Coast Athletic Conference) for an 11 p.m. tilt on Saturday.
