The College of Wooster overcame a slow start and took control during the second half, outscoring DePauw University 5-1, for a 9-6 win in North Coast Athletic Conference women's lacrosse action Saturday at Greencastle, Ind.

With the victory, Wooster (10-4, 3-3 NCAC) remains in contention for a berth into the four-team NCAC Tournament heading into the final week of the regular season.

DePauw (5-9, 3-3 NCAC) jumped out to a surprising 5-2 lead through 25 minutes of play, then the Fighting Scots closed the first half strong and dominated the second. Ellie Hudson-Heck converted a free-position attempt 4:36 before halftime and netted another goal during an extra-man opportunity at the 1:43 mark as the visitors closed within one.

Hudson-Heck continued her personal scoring barrage with an unassisted tally 4:56 into the second to tie the game 5-5, and about six minutes later, Heather Szymanski gave Wooster its first lead of the day via a free-position goal.

The Tigers tied it back up, only to see Szymanski strike again with another go-ahead score with 12:42 left in regulation. Hudson-Heck helped clinch the outcome with two more goals, the first assisted by Heather Honn.

All of the Scots' goals came from three players – the five from Hudson-Heck, plus two apiece by Abby Szlachta and Szymanski. In addition to Honn's assist, Szymanski and Jamie Wren-Jarvis each delivered a helper.

Szymanski chipped in four groundballs, sharing team honors in that category with Mara Sheban, while Emma Lawrence was credited with eight draw controls and Wynn Boehmcke three caused turnovers.

Another key to the win was Isabel Perman's nine-save effort, which included five stops during the second when DePauw managed just one goal.

On Wednesday evening, Wooster faces off against rival Wittenberg University (10-3, 4-2 NCAC) in what will be the Fighting Scots' final home game of the season.
