The College of Wooster women's lacrosse team pulled within one just before the half, but similar to the regular-season meeting, could not overcome a series of quick scores from Denison University as the Big Red topped the Fighting Scots 19-9 in a North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament semifinal contest on Wednesday evening at Granville, Ohio.

During the game, Wooster (11-6) senior Ellie Hudson-Heck broke W Association Hall of Famer Meg Woods' 21-year-old single-season school record for goals when she beat the Denison (12-5) goalkeeper for her 60th tally of the year with 13:51 in the contest.

Just before the half, Hudson-Heck pumped in a goal with :14 remaining, which at the time cut Denison's lead to 7-6. The goal was part of a 3-0 run by the Scots that saw Abby Szlachta finish a free-position shot, and later, bury an unassisted tally.

Denison, who scored three times in the last 4:38 of the first-half to gain some separation during the regular-season meeting, did likewise with a quick second-half burst as the Big Red scored five times in the opening three minutes to pull ahead 12-6.

In the first half, Denison netted a trio of goals before Wooster was able to string together some offensive momentum.

Emma Lawrence, who set the single-season record for draw controls on Saturday, won a draw with just under 23 minutes remaining, helping to set up one of Wooster's first big offensive chances. Hudson-Heck came through just over two minutes later with a free-position goal to put the Scots on the board with 21:48 remaining in the half.

From there, Hudson-Heck won the ensuing draw control, and quickly found a cutting Helena Enders to make it a one-goal game at 3-2 with 21:19 left in the half.

Then, Denison sandwiched in a pair of tallies between a Hudson-Heck goal with 11:16 remaining in the half to extend its lead to 7-3.

Hudson-Heck led Wooster on the night with four goals and an assist, to cap her collegiate career with 200 goals. The senior also filled the stat sheet with three draw controls and a pair of groundballs.

Szlachta also had a strong finish to her career with two goals and an assist.

Denison was led by Lizzy Pellicane's game-high five goals and Leah Israel's seven draws.

On Sunday, Heather Honn and Isabel Perman were named to the all-tournament team at the conclusion of the championship game.
