Senior Salute: CC Dent

CC Dent Q&A Throughout the spring semester, we are honoring our senior student-athletes with a "Senior Salute" series. Today's featured senior is CC Dent, a women's, gender, and sexuality studies major from Holliston, Massachusetts. Dent is a member of the women's lacrosse team.

Q: Why did you choose to attend The College of Wooster?
A: I enjoyed the atmosphere and the possibility of opportunities. Wooster allows for students to participate in many different areas of study as well as activities.

Q: What does it mean to you to be a Fighting Scot student-athlete?
A: I love being a Fighting Scot because it allows me to share a common goal with the rest of the student body. I wear the Black & Gold with pride and love competing at the collegiate level.

Q: What are some of your favorite memories as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: Making it to the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament championship my first year and my junior year was the most rewarding experience with my team. Unfortunately, we lost both competitions, but I'm looking forward to the upcoming season!

Q: What's the best part about being a student-athlete at The College of Wooster?
A: The balance of sports and academics. I love my team and the relationships I've formed over the last four years.

Q: What else were you involved with on campus besides your sport?
A: I'm involved with the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) as a team representative as well as the women's, gender, and sexuality studies major where we coordinate activities between students and faculty.

Q: Which College of Wooster faculty or staff member has made the greatest impact on you and why?
A: Dr. (Jordan) Biro-Walters helped steer me in the direction of majoring in WGSS and has aided me in being a teaching apprentice for a few of her courses as well.

Q: Which other people or resources impacted your Wooster experience in a positive way and how did these people/resources set you up to be successful at Wooster?
A: Dr. Ahmet Atay is my advisor, and he has been the best to work with on my Independent Study over the past semester. Coach (Elizabeth) Ford has also been the best coach over the last four years and has helped me on and off the field become the best student and athlete I can be.

Q: Tell us a bit about your Independent Study project?
A: I am researching queer women athletes at the collegiate level, specifically at Wooster. Over the fall semester I've researched the history of women in sports, the history of queer people in sports, and the evolution of queer theory and related it to athletics. I've also interviewed a dozen or so female athletes at Wooster and will use their accounts and my research to prove my thesis of the necessity of safe spaces for queer athletes at Wooster.

Q: Tell us a bit about something cool you did as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: I had never been to South Carolina before, and as a first-year, my team and I traveled to Hilton Head and spent a week on the beach, playing games, and practicing and relaxing away from campus. The break was nice before returning to campus and having an undefeated season, except for against Denison University.

Q: Reflecting back on your time at Wooster, what is one piece of advice you would give your first-year (freshman) self?
A: Keep working hard. It is important to believe in yourself and your teammates and try your hardest on and off the field. The better you do in class, the better you'll do on the field and vice versa.
