Morris Eclipses 100 Goals in Women’s Lacrosse Season Opening Win

Junior midfielder Kenzie Morris eclipsed the 100 career goal milestone as the College of Wooster defeated Baldwin Wallace University 17-5 in the season and home opener at John P. Papp Stadium.

After scoring a trio of goals in the first quarter, Morris' moment came with 13:23 remaining in the second period. An easy man-up free position goal sealed the deal as the junior became the second straight Scot to hit the 100 goal milestone, following in the footsteps of alumna Hannah Shaw last season.

Morris finished the game with five goals and two assists for seven points. Senior Kenzie Smith led the way offensively for the Scots (1-0) with a game-high seven goals. Junior Kaitlyn McBride tallied four points off of one goal and three assists.

Sophomore Lizzie Hardy had a do-it-all type of game with two goals, one assist, three ground balls and a team-high five draw controls. Sophomore Soleil Dubois and junior Ashlyn Casey led the defensive effort with game highs of four ground balls for Dubois and three caused turnovers for Casey.

Both Deanna Loukas and Carley House scored a pair of goals while Clare Alic had a goal and an assist for the Yellow Jackets (1-1).

Although Baldwin Wallace got on the scoreboard first, a Scot with the first name of Kenzie was responsible for Wooster's first four goals with Morris netting three of the four. Smith and Morris continued to lead the attack throughout the rest of the game while McBride hit her stride in facilitating the offense dishing out three consecutive assists early in the third quarter.

The Scots' defense shined, however, not allowing a single goal in the third period and recording four caused turnovers and one save. The Kenzie duo left their mark on the game in the final period as Smith scored a man-up goal and Morris netted yet another free position goal.

In the net, junior Ashley Reynolds got the start and the win, recording two saves in almost 40 minutes of action. First-year Audrey Richardson made her collegiate debut late in the third period and made her first collegiate save. Caroline Potteiger suffered the loss but had a game-high seven saves.

Wooster hits the road for the first time in the 2024 campaign to take on John Carroll University on Feb. 27 at 6 p.m. inside Don Shula Stadium.
