Morris Scores Seven as Scots Quiet Thunder

ANGOLA, Ind. – Junior Kenzie Morris scored seven goals to lead the College of Wooster women's lacrosse team to its fourth consecutive victory, a 20-10 road win at Trine University. The win marked the third consecutive game in which Wooster has scored at least 20 goals. 

Morris turned in an excellent all-around game for Wooster (8-1), finishing with game-highs in goals scored, points (eight), ground balls (five), and caused turnovers (three) while also winning three draw controls. Six other Fighting Scots tallied goals in the victory, including three goals apiece from senior Kenzie Smith and sophomore Brynne Snaguski

Snaguski added a team-best three assists to finish with six points. Smith's three goals improved her season total to 29, marking a new single-season career-high.

Sophomore Lizzie Hardy, junior Kaitlyn McBride and sophomore Bella Woodbury all scored two goals each while junior Madelyn Noll also found the back of the net for Wooster.

Wooster entered the day ranked fifth in the nation in goals per game and improved upon its average of 17.88 goals per game against Trine (6-3). Wooster outscored The Thunder in every quarter and scored 10 goals in each half while also holding a 44-29 advantage in total shots. 

Wooster also improved its nationally-ranked average in draw controls by winning 23 in the contest. Wooster's average of 18.13 draw controls per game entering ranked eighth nationally. Hardy paced Wooster with 11 draw controls in the victory while sophomore Sidney O'Rourke added eight. 

Wooster scored the game's first three goals and never looked back, building a 5-2 cushion after the first quarter. Smith started the scoring by connecting off Snaguski's assist just a little more than two minutes into the contest.

Morris added a free position goal to give Wooster a 2-0 advantage with 7:14 remaining. A total of five goals were scored in the final 2:15 of the quarter between the two squads. Woodbury, Morris and Noll all added goals for Wooster in a span of 1:53. 

Trine scored the first goal of the second quarter to cut Wooster's lead down to just two at 5-3, but back-to-back goals from Snaguski followed by tallies from Smith and Morris put Wooster in front 9-3 midway through the second quarter. 

Trine trimmed Wooster's lead down to 10-6 at halftime, but the Thunder came no closer than a four-goal deficit for the remainder of the contest as Wooster pulled away in the second half. The Scots outscored the Thunder 6-2 in the third quarter and 4-2 in the fourth to come away with the 10-goal victory. 

First-year Audrey Richardson tallied 13 saves to pick up the victory in goal for Wooster.

Calista Richmond and Brooke Hoag led Trine's offense with three goals apiece. Alyssa Lahutsky totaled three assists for the Thunder. 

Next, Wooster hosts Kalamazoo College on Tuesday.
