Wooster Cruises Past Albright
Scots have 11-0 run in 17-3 win
READING, Pa. – Lack of turnovers stood out from The College of Wooster women's lacrosse team's impressive performance on Wednesday. The Fighting Scots made quick work of Albright College 17-3 at Gene L. Shirk Stadium.
Wooster (6-1) had just seven miscues in the turnover column in Wednesday's win, marking the fewest turnovers since only having six in a 20-9 victory over Wittenberg University last spring. Wooster was a perfect 12-of-12 on clear attempts, for its second game this season without a failed one.
Wooster was up quickly, as the Scots netted the first five goals of the contest and had the lead back to five at the end of the first period. Senior Kenzie Morris found junior Lizzie Hardy for the game's opening score, while junior Bella Woodbury netted two of her game-high four goals in the 5-0 kickoff stretch.
Wooster's lead reached double digits when senior Madelyn Noll found junior Sophia Mellis open for a score that put Wooster up 11-1 at the second quarter's 5:00 mark. Morris and Hardy tallied unassisted goals before halftime, while Mellis' unassisted score with 5:26 remaining in the third capped a dominant 11-0 Wooster run.
Albright's (3-4) Caelainn Morrison was a standout in goal despite the final score. Morrison made 17 saves on the day, as 34 of Wooster's 40 shots were on target. Wooster's lack of turnovers aided the Scots into a near 3-to-1 shot margin over Albright at 40-15.
Hardy surpassed 200 career draw controls with five on the afternoon. The junior is the fifth player in program history to have over 200, and combined with Morris, it is the second time two active players have over 200 draw controls. Alumnae Megan Healy and Emma Lawrence, both 2019 graduates, each surpassed 200 draw controls during their standout careers.
Eight players were credited with a caused turnover for Wooster. Woodbury's two led the team, while seven of the nine came from attackers or midfielders. That equated to Albright going just 7-of-13 on clears.
Noll's four groundballs were a game-high, while Hardy, Morris, and junior Sidney O'Rourke combined for 12 of the Scots' 15 draw controls.
First-year Rowan Pilon's season-best three goals were tied for second among Wooster's players with Mellis. Wooster played three goalkeepers, led by sophomore starter Audrey Richardson. Richardson totaled five saves and had just one goal against in 41:13 of action.
Bridgette Asher scored twice for Albright.
Next, Wooster wraps up its Pennsylvania trip with a 3 p.m. game at Neumann University (6-4) on Friday.
