Wooster Rallies Late to Top Neumann
Jacobs scores game-winner with 35 seconds remaining
ASTON, Pa. – First-year Mizan Jacobs scored with 35 seconds remaining to cap The College of Wooster women's lacrosse team's 17-16 comeback at Neumann University and send the Fighting Scots home winners of all three games of its spring break trip to Pennsylvania.
Wooster (7-1) scored three times in the final 3:07 to take the win, and Jacobs scored two of the goals. Overall, first-year turned in a breakout game with five goals, which nearly doubled the midfielder's season total.
Junior Brynne Snaguski's defense set up the game-winning score. The attacker caused a late turnover, scooped up the groundball, then immediately found Jacobs for the winner.
Jacobs maintained possession for the Scots following the go-ahead score on a draw control. Neumann (4-4) was whistle for a green card right after, and that helped enable Wooster to run out the clock.
In between Jacobs goals, junior Lizzie Hardy buried a free-position score that tied the Friday afternoon thriller at 16. Earlier, Jacobs tied Friday's game at 11 in the third period with her second goal of the contest.
Senior Kaitlyn McBride backed Jacobs' signature outing up with three assists and two goals. First-year Cassidy Driscoll added four points with two goals and two assists.
Four Wooster players had multiple caused turnovers in the game, led by senior Lexi Sarne and junior Bella Woodbury, who had three each. Hardy was the leader in draw controls with eight and junior Sidney O'Rourke followed with six. Hardy's four groundballs led Wooster's players. Sophomore Audrey Richardson stopped eight Neumann shots.
Lindsey Fagan and Krista Geibler combined for nine of Neumann's 14 goals. Alena Catka won 11 draw controls, while Abbey Fenton stuff the stat sheet with eight saves and four groundballs.
Wooster held slight edges in all the key stat categories, with a 33-29 lead in shots, a 23-17 one in groundballs, an 18-17 one in draw controls, and the Scots had one fewer turnover.
Wooster went 18-of-23 on clears to a 17-of-23 mark for Neumann.
