Piper’s Score Enough for Wooster to Get Past W&J

Freshman Paige Piper scored a goal during the 77th minute and it held up, as The College of Wooster shutout Washington & Jefferson College 1-0 on Wednesday evening in women's soccer action at Washington, Pa.

Wooster (3-0-1), which also prevailed 1-0 in its most recent outing, controlled the majority of the non-conference match's action, finishing with a 13-3 shot advantage. It was scoreless, though, until the late going when sophomore Mary Riney, who had just subbed in, fed a pass to Piper, who connected on the second goal of her young collegiate career.

Defensively, freshman Michele Ring only needed to make one save to preserve her second shutout, while her counterpart, Stephanie Saussol, stopped eight Scot attempts on goal.

Next, Wooster looks to remain unbeaten when it travels to Bethany College for another night match Saturday.
