Scots See Early Lead Vanish in 2-1 Loss to Transylvania

Mary Riney put The College of Wooster women's soccer team on the scoreboard early, but Transylvania University responded with two unanswered goals to earn a 2-1 decision Sunday in a neutral site match at Danville, Ky.

Just over eight minutes into the action, the Scots (1-2) took the lead when Riney drilled a kick from 20 yards away that sailed over the goalkeeper's arms and into the back of the net. It was Riney's team-leading second goal of the season.

Transylvania (3-0) tied things up at 27:29 on an Elizabeth Schmitt goal, and the score remained deadlocked 1-1 until the 71st minute, when Amy Ghibaudy scored the game-winner off of a previously deflected shot attempt. Both Kristin Tenhundfeld and Carley Williams were credited with the double assist on the goal.

The Scots were outshot 20-13 on the day, but led 6-4 in corner kicks. Goalkeeper Michele Ring one-upped the save output from her last outing, recording a career-high nine saves in the setback. Erin Davison led Wooster with two shots on goal, while Liz Mott and Kelsey Peters both had solid looks get saved.

Wooster will head back home to host Marietta College (0-2) on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
