Davison, Riney Lead Wooster Over Marietta 2-1

WOOSTER, Ohio – The match came down to one goal, but it wasn't as close as the score indicates, as The College of Wooster bombarded Marietta College with shots, including Mary Riney's go-ahead goal that highlighted a 2-1 triumph Wednesday at Carl Dale Field.

The Pioneers (0-3) hadn't recorded a single shot attempt heading into the 55th minute, but it took just one to get Marietta back into the match. Trailing 1-0, Christina Tirpak sent a well-placed corner kick into the goal box, and Jennifer Wilder came through with a header that tied the match.

It wasn't long before the Scots (2-2) answered back, as Erin Davison received a Bri Fulmer corner kick and one-touched the ball to Mary Riney who blasted in her team-leading third goal this season. Davison and Fulmer were credited with a double assist on the play.

Wooster held on to its 2-1 lead, and almost added to it on several occasions, including a deep blast by Erika Kay that smashed into the crossbar. The Scots led 16-3 in shots and 8-4 in corner kicks on the day.

Davison gave Wooster its initial lead when she scored 39:56 into the action. Maggie Kehm brought the ball up the right side, weaved through several Marietta defenders, and delivered Davison a cross that she pushed past the keeper.

The Scots will look to improve to 3-0 at home when they host Manchester College (1-2) on Saturday at 3 p.m.
