Riney’s Blast, Another Stellar Defensive Effort Result in 1-0 Win

A goal by Mary Riney less than 10 minutes into the second half was enough for The College of Wooster to get past Washington & Jefferson College 1-0, as the Fighting Scots' defense produced its third shutout of the season during a non-conference women's soccer match-up Sunday at Carl Dale Field in Wooster, Ohio.

Though Wooster (5-3) was dominating the action, ultimately finishing with a 19-4 shot advantage as well as a stunning 15-1 edge in corner kicks, it remained scoreless 54 minutes in. At that juncture, Riney, positioned well outside the box, sent a blast past the goalkeeper and it nestled into the upper center of the goal. It marked Riney's fourth score this fall, and Lida Bilokur was credited with an assist on the play.

Defensively, the Scots now have three shutouts over the last four games, with Michele Ring tallying two saves to preserve Sunday's goose egg.

Wooster continues its non-league slate Thursday night at John Carroll University (3-4).
