Kay-Piper Connection Gives Scots 2-1 OT Win at JCU

Paige Piper scored on a cross from Erika Kay 3:16 into overtime, lifting The College of Wooster to a 2-1 victory over fellow northeast Ohio foe John Carroll University in women's soccer action Thursday night at University Hts., Ohio.

The non-conference foes played to a scoreless stalemate for nearly 80 minutes, but the final 14:13 was filled with offensive fireworks. First, Erin Davison and Piper made two quick passes, the second getting through to a wide open Kay, who finished the opportunity for her third goal this season.

With just 2:31 remaining in regulation, John Carroll (3-5-1) evened the score when Wooster (6-3) was unable to clear a corner kick and Rachel Grdina snuck in for a goal.

The Blue Streaks put a shot on goal just 16 seconds into the extra session, but they were denied by Michele Ring with the last of her six saves on the night. Shortly thereafter, the Fighting Scots would pressure the hosts' defense and Piper's second shot of the overtime was true. It marked her fifth goal of the year and Kay's second assist.

Next for Wooster, it heads to Pennsylvania Saturday for a contest at Misericordia University (6-1-1).
