Wooster Closes Non-League Schedule With 2-1 Loss to Walsh

WOOSTER, Ohio – Walsh University scored twice during an 8:25 stretch late in the second half to upend The College of Wooster 2-1 during a women's soccer match-up Tuesday at a chilly, overcast Carl Dale Field, as the Fighting Scots put a wrap on their non-conference slate for the 2010 season.

After a first half that featured few scoring opportunities with just six shots taken between the two squads, Wooster (6-5) gained control early in the second. Just over two minutes had passed when the Scots drew a free kick, which Bri Fulmer delivered into the box where Kelsey Peters received it and made a quick turn-and-shoot. Peters' attempt was blocked by a defender, however Erika Kay blasted in the rebound from the right side for her fourth goal. Wooster also earned a series of corner kicks shortly after that to no avail.

Just past the midway point of the second half, Walsh (6-2) began to make some offensive runs and converted one in the 70th minute as Mollie Vanover, who had entered the match moments earlier, headed in a corner from Lauren Jokovich. And in the 79th minute, the Cavaliers pressured the Scots' defense again, resulting in a blast from the left side by Molly Martin that was initially saved by Michele Ring and followed by a rebound goal for Rachel Rucker.

Ring made four saves on the afternoon, highlighted by a diving stop during the final 30 seconds to keep Wooster within striking distance.

The Scots now turn their attention to North Coast Athletic Conference play as they'll host Hiram College (4-5-2) Saturday at 1 p.m.
