Kay’s Tying Goal at Allegheny Keeps Wooster in First-Place

<a href= A goal by Erika Kay in the 83rd minute helped The College of Wooster forge a 1-1 tie with No. 21 ranked Allegheny College on Tuesday afternoon, and the Fighting Scots return from Meadville, Pa., still atop the North Coast Athletic Conference women's soccer standings.

With just two regular season games left, Wooster (10-5-1, 4-0-1 NCAC) now has 13 points, remaining two ahead of second-place Allegheny's 11 via its 3-0-2 league mark. The Scots are aiming for their first NCAC championship since 1996.

Kay's score came less than four minutes after the Gators' Abby Silvester had struck for a goal off a direct free kick. With Allegheny's defense only having given up three goals all season, first-place in the conference appeared to be slipping away from Wooster, but Kay came through with probably the most important of her eight goals on the season.

Both defenses made the 1-1 score hold up through the final 7:54 of regulation and two 10-minute overtimes. Overall, Scot goalie Michele Ring collected seven saves and the Gators' Emily Karr had six in the evenly-played contest.

Next for Wooster is a road game against Kenyon College (6-6-2, 1-1-2 NCAC) Saturday afternoon.
