Late Kenyon Goal on Free Kick Drops Wooster 1-0

<a href= The College of Wooster and Kenyon College's women's soccer teams appeared destined for overtime Saturday afternoon, but the Ladies broke a scoreless tie in the 87th minute with a game-winning goal, and handed the Fighting Scots their first loss this season in North Coast Athletic Conference action at Gambier, Ohio.

The Scots (10-6-1, 4-1-1 NCAC) held a 17-6 advantage in shot attempts over Kenyon (7-7-2, 2-2-2 NCAC), and looked poised to find the back of the net late in the second half. Mary Riney blasted a shot that smashed off the post with 19:49 remaining in regulation, and Paige Piper had a good look saved by Kenyon 'keeper Kat Powers with under 10 minutes on the clock.

Kenyon hadn't been able to get a shot off in about 30 minutes until it earned a free kick in the final moments that put Wooster away. Hannah Lodi delivered at 86:04 on a deep boot from outside the goal box, giving Kenyon just its second triumph over an NCAC opponent.

Powers kept Kenyon in the match by recording seven saves, while Wooster's Michele Ring totaled two saves in limited opportunities. Piper led all players with eight shot attempts, and Kendal Wong took four shots, including one in the final moments that was blocked by a scrum of players.

Wooster ends its regular season next Saturday at 1 p.m. with a home clash against archrival Wittenberg University (13-3-1, 5-1-0 NCAC), where the NCAC's No. 1 seed will be on the line.
