The College of Wooster women's soccer team appeared to be headed to overtime with Ohio Northern University, but the Polar Bears tacked on their third goal with just minutes remaining in regulation to push past the Fighting Scots 3-2 Thursday evening in both teams' season opener at Ada, Ohio.

Trailing 2-1 late in the match, Wooster (0-1) netted the equalizer when all-conference defender Bri Fulmer blasted in a penalty kick at 81:26 to knot the score. Just three minutes later, though, Ohio Northern (1-0) responded when Sami Atkinson streaked down the right sideline, and crossed the ball to a cutting Kristina Klusek who beat the keeper for the game-winning goal.

About 20 minutes into the first half, it was Klusek who also provided ONU's initial tally on the scoreboard, as she lobbed a shot over the goalie's head and got a friendly bounce to make it 1-0. Shortly after, Wooster tied the game at 1-1 when Kendal Wong assisted on Paige Piper's 18th career goal, but the Polar Bears regained the lead early in the second half.

Overall, Ohio Northern more than doubled Wooster's shot attempts (15-7), and earned the only corner kicks (3-0) of the contest. Goalkeeper Michele Ring recorded six saves in the setback, while her counterpart Erin Waehner made two saves.

The Scots will look to bounce back when they visit Washington & Jefferson College on Sunday at 5 p.m.
