WOOSTER, Ohio – A single goal in the 20th minute was all The College of Wooster women's soccer team needed on Sunday afternoon, as the Fighting Scots got past WilmingtonWilmington College 1-0 during a non-conference match-up at Carl Dale Field.

After an hour delay due to lightning in the area, the teams took the field and it was Wilmington (1-2-2) that had a couple of early offensive opportunities. During the 18th minute, the Quakers had a breakaway but goalie Michele Ring held her ground to make a key save.

Less than 90 seconds later, Wooster (3-2) earned a free kick deep in Wilmington's end. Bri Fulmer sent the ball into the box, then a scramble ensued right in front of the net, where Lida Bilokur tapped it over to Erin Davison, who finished the play for a goal. It marked Davison's third score on the young season.

Shortly after halftime, Davison nearly netted another, but was denied by the crossbar. The rest of the story of the second half was the Scots' defense, which held the Quakers to just two shots as they notched their initial shutout of 2011.

Overall, Wooster doubled Wilmington in shots (12-6) and Ring collected five saves.

The Scots continue an extended homestand on Wednesday when Heidelberg University (2-2) visits at 4:30 p.m.
