Piper's Goal All Wooster Needs to Get Past Denison

Paige Piper scored early in the second half to break a scoreless tie, and that goal held up as the game-winner, as The College of Wooster women's soccer team notched a 1-0 victory over Denison University Saturday afternoon in North Coast Athletic Conference action at Granville, Ohio.

The Scots (6-5-1, 1-1-1 NCAC) and Big Red (4-6-2, 0-3-0 NCAC) combined to take 15 shots in the first half, with neither team finding the back of the net, but Piper lit the scoreboard after the break to put Wooster on top for good.

In the 56th minute, Piper dribbled through the defense and blasted a shot over the goalkeeper, who had slid to try and make the save, giving the Scots its 1-0 margin. It was Piper's seventh goal of the season and first since her four-goal outburst against John Carroll on Sept. 20.

Michele Ring made two of her six saves in the final five minutes of the match to help preserve the lead. Piper almost netted a second goal with 10 seconds left on the clock, but the ball missed just high and smashed off of the cross bar.

Next, Wooster will play the last non-conference match on its schedule when it travels to Notre Dame (Ohio) College Monday at 7 p.m.
