The College of Wooster women's soccer team needed a good showing against Wittenberg University to solidify a spot in the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament, and that's exactly what happened, as the Fighting Scots got a late goal from Kelsey Peters to notch a 1-0 victory Saturday afternoon at Springfield, Ohio.

With the win, the Scots improved to 4-1-3 in conference play and locked up the No. 3 seed in the tournament. Wooster will travel to second-seeded Allegheny College for a semifinal match-up at a time to be announced.

There wasn't much offense in the first half, as the two teams combined for just five shot attempts. Mary Riney and Maggie Kehm each blasted shots on goal, but Wittenberg goalie Cassie Lythjohan made a pair of saves to keep the match scoreless.

Finally, in the 71st minute, Crystal Chavez collected a loose ball in front of the net and directed a pass over to Peters, who delivered what wound up being the game-winning goal. It was the senior defender's third goal of the season.

Wittenberg narrowly edged out Wooster 9-8 in shot attempts, and both Lythjohan and Michele Ring recorded three saves on the day. For Ring, it marked her fourth shutout this year.
