Kelsey Peters capped her standout career at The College of Wooster by earning a spot on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/Continental Tire NCAA Div. III All-America Team, receiving third-team honors from the coaches' organization, and teammate Paige Piper joined her on the All-Great Lakes Region Team. The announcements were made Friday by the NSCAA.
Peters is the fifth player in the 27-year history of the program to be an All-American and a three-time all-region recipient with this fall's first-team selection (second-team in 2010, third-team in 2009), while Piper's second-team all-region nod makes her a two-time honoree in that category (third-team in 2010).
A senior defender in 2011, Peters anchored a Wooster backfield that compiled a 1.20 goals against average with five shutouts, including against eventual North Coast Athletic Conference co-champion Allegheny College (Oct. 5) and archrival Wittenberg University (Oct. 29). Asked to move up the field to support the offense at times, she responded with three goals this season, elevating her career scoring total to 22 points in 77 matches.
Piper, a junior forward, led the Fighting Scots with 11 goals and three assists, and ranked second in the league with 25 points. Her stellar season was highlighted by a four-goal effort during a 5-3 win over fellow northeast Ohio foe John Carroll University (Sept. 20) as well as a hat trick against Oberlin College (Oct. 26). Piper also scored the only goal in a 1-0 victory over perennial power Denison University (Oct. 8).
