WOOSTER, Ohio – Despite playing on the much quicker playing surface at John P. Papp Stadium for the first time in program history, The College of Wooster women's soccer team wound up showcasing its defense Saturday, as the Fighting Scots held Baldwin Wallace University without a goal, but were unable to score themselves, resulting in a 110-minute scoreless tie that kicked off a series of four matches that will be played this weekend.

With rain threatening to wreak havoc on Carl Dale Field, the Scots (3-0-1) decided to give the synthetic turf at John P. Papp Stadium a try for the first time since it was installed in the summer of 2009. Wooster and Baldwin Wallace (2-0-2) combined to fire off 10 shots in the first half, but it wasn't until after the break that either team produced a high-quality scoring chance.

Just a few minutes into the second half, goalkeeper Michele Ring was forced to make a leaping save on a shot by Rachel Gokey, where she punched the ball into the crossbar causing it to deflect back down into the goal box. It was then that Baldwin Wallace's Kari Trivisonno quickly sent another shot on goal, but Paige Madden was in perfect position along the goal line to clear the ball out of harm's way and prevent the would-be score.

Wooster had some opportunities late in the second half, several of which were created by Paige Piper, who dribbled her way through swarms of defenders to produce a pair of solid looks at the goal. The closest the Scots came to finding the back of the net was with just over a minute left in regulation, though, when Kendal Wong struck a well-placed corner kick that found the head of Lauren Hancher, but the latter's shot attempt was just barely sent away by a Baldwin Wallace defender.

The Yellow Jackets outshot the Scots 4-1 in the two overtime periods, but Ring made two of her four saves during the extra time to preserve the tie. The shutout was the 18th of Ring's career.

In a neutral-site game that took place afterwards, No. 18 ranked Ohio Northern University defeated Earlham College by a 1-0 margin on a goal by Sandy Plunkett in the 55th minute.

Wooster will be back in action Sunday when it hosts Ohio Northern at 9 a.m., at Papp Stadium. Baldwin Wallace and Earlham are set to square off around 11 a.m.
