WOOSTER, Ohio – Although The College of Wooster women's soccer team dominated possession and outshot Washington & Jefferson College by a 26-4 margin, the game's outcome was still very much in question until late into regulation, but Erika Kay's goal in the 70th minute held up and the Fighting Scots got by the Presidents 2-1 on Friday afternoon at a chilly Carl Dale Field.

The Scots (4-2-1) generated scoring opportunities at will throughout the majority of the game, but it was the Presidents (0-4-0) that netted the initial goal midway through the first half. Jess Skovira blasted a shot at goalkeeper Michele Ring, and the latter dove and punched away a would-be goal, which caused the ball to deflect off the cross bar. At that juncture, Kelsey Kraus collected the loose ball and passed it to Chrissy Marcius, who touched the ball into the net while Ring was still out of position to put her team up 1-0.

Wooster tied the game at 1-1 about 10 minutes later on an extremely rare play, as it was awarded a free kick from just inside the half line on the right side, and Ring sent a high-arching ball into the box that bounced once and splashed the back of the net. The goal, which was from approximately 40 yards out, was the first of Ring's career, although she did record three assists a season ago off of similarly well-placed free kicks.

The second half was all Wooster, as the Scots outshot the Presidents 17-1. Still, it wasn't until later in the half that the Scots were able to take their first lead of the game. The go-ahead goal came when Katherine Tuttle pushed the ball ahead to Lily Mohre down the left side, and then Mohre quickly crossed it to a streaking Kay who finished with her team-leading fourth goal of the year.

Despite not finding the back of the net, Paige Piper, Crystal Chavez, and Kendal Wong combined for 15 of Wooster's shot attempts. Ring needed just two saves to notch the victory in goal, while her counterpart, Mattie Follen, minimized the damage by making 12 saves in the setback.

Next up, Wooster will be back on the road for the first time in two weeks when they visit Wilmington College (5-0-1) on Sunday at 2 p.m.
