WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster and Carnegie Mellon University scored goals just 19 seconds apart early in the first half to knot the game 1-1, but shortly after, lightning in the area caused a nearly hour long stoppage in the action, and the Tartans went on to score twice after the delay to drop the Scots 3-1 on Saturday afternoon in a battle of two regionally-ranked teams at a cold and rainy Carl Dale Field.

Kendal Wong put the Scots (5-4-1) on the scoreboard first around the 12-minute mark when she struck a free kick from about 30 yards away that beat the 'keeper to give her team the 1-0 lead. It was just the second goal of her career.

Carnegie Mellon (6-0-2) responded, almost instantly, as Jenna Asperslag drove through the defense and dished to Brianna Magill on the left side, who quickly blasted the equalizer to make it 1-1 just 12:31 into the action.

With 17:17 remaining in the first half, the rain began to pick up and lightning was spotted, forcing a 50-minute delay that caused both teams to seek shelter indoors. When the game resumed, the Tartans recorded the only shot attempt before halftime, and it was a strong one, as Courtney Brant launched a high shot at Michele Ring, but the latter was able to leap into the air and punch away the would-be goal to preserve the tie.

Although the Scots controlled possession in the second half, the Tartans made the most of their opportunities, scoring twice on their only two shot attempts of the stanza. Lucy Havens put Carnegie Mellon on top with a goal at 58:30, and Brant added the insurance at 81:08 to push the Tartans to a 3-1 victory.

Wooster will look to snap its two-game losing skid when it visits North Coast Athletic Conference foe Kenyon College on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
