The College of Wooster and archrival Wittenberg University played a closely-contested game that could have went either way, but ultimately, the Tigers broke open the scoreless contest with a goal in the 81st minute and then hung on to win 1-0 in a key North Coast Athletic Conference women's soccer match-up Saturday afternoon at Springfield, Ohio.

The Fighting Scots (8-6-3, 3-2-2 NCAC) were outshot 7-2 in the first half, but goalkeeper Carly Eppler kept the Tigers (8-6-3, 4-1-1 NCAC) off the scoreboard with four saves, including one on a penalty kick during the final ticks of the first half to preserve a 0-0 tie at the break.

The second half was much tighter, with both teams firing off four shot attempts, including a pair from Katherine Tuttle midway through the stanza that missed their mark. Finally, at the 80:02-mark, Wittenberg scored an assisted tally to give them the one-goal advantage it rode to victory.

Rachael Davis did get loose with less than a minute in regulation, but her shot attempt sailed wide right.

The Scots are in a tight race for an NCAC Tournament berth, and will be looking for a win Wednesday when they host Allegheny College (9-6-2, 5-2-0 NCAC) at 4 p.m. in their regular season finale.
