WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster scored right before halftime and midway through the second, and its defense posted yet another shutout, as the Fighting Scots overcame the elements and Oberlin College for a 2-0 win at an unseasonably cold and rainy Carl Dale Field on Saturday afternoon.

While Wooster (9-2-1, 2-0-0 NCAC) possessed the ball most of the time, Oberlin (5-4-1, 0-2-0 NCAC) nearly got on the scoreboard first. During the 30th minute, Scot 'keeper Carly Eppler was unable to intercept a cross into the box by the Yeowomen, but she recovered to make a diving save.

Wooster's offense had a series of runs late in the half. First, a Lauren Hancher header off a corner just went outside the net in the 38th minute, and Oberlin goalie Jordyn Morris charged out to make a nice save on a Kennedy Payne run into the box in the 43rd minute, but the Scots did convert late. With the clock ticking down, Lily Mohre crossed a ball from deep in the right corner of the field to Liz Kantra, who was right in front of the goal and touched it in with just 1.6 seconds left before the halftime break.

The score remained 1-0 until Carly Joliat directed a well-placed cross from the left side into the box and Payne drove a header just inside the right post for a two-goal cushion in the 68th minute.

Notable, neither Kantra or Payne had goals this season entering the week, but now they both have two after scoring both Tuesday and Saturday.

The defense, which includes starters Rachael Davis, Joliat, Emma Lawrence, and Erin O'Connor, made the lead hold up en route to its 10th shutout of the season, and fourth in a row.

Eppler finished with three saves in posting her sixth solo shutout in goal.

Wooster will be home again next Saturday when it welcomes Kenyon College (7-5, 1-1 NCAC) for a 12:30 p.m. kickoff.
