Wooster Rallies, Ties Washington & Jefferson With Strong Second Half

WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster women's soccer team rallied from behind to tie Washington & Jefferson College 2-2 in double overtime at Carl Dale Field on Saturday afternoon.

The Fighting Scots (1-3-1) fell behind in the first half after a cross from the left flank by Washington & Jefferson's Tatiana Ruzzini found the feet of teammate Ashton Grimm, who one-touched it past Wooster goalkeeper Carly Eppler in the 18th minute for the game's first goal.

First-year forward Krissy Blanchard cuts back on a defender during the Scots' 2-2 double overtime draw against Washington & Jefferson College.

Less than three minutes later, Wooster's Claire Davis received a pass in the opposing third, who then turned to distribute a through-ball out wide to Harper Jones. Upon seeing the opposing goalkeeper Allison Rinehimer extended beyond her line, Jones ripped a 25-yard shot over the head of the 'keeper to level the score at 1-1 in 21st minute.

The Presidents (2-1-1) would regain the advantage late in the first half after a defensive miscommunication gave Ruzzini an open one-on-one with the goalkeeper, calmly tucking it away to give her team a 2-1 lead going into the half.

The Scots came out of the break with good possession and promising build-ups.

The offensive pressure paid off after a deflected shot by Davis found the feet of teammate Erica White, who put home the rebound to bring the score level at 2-2 in the 72nd minute.

The score remained tied throughout regulation as both teams prepared for overtime. In a battle for possession during the first overtime, neither team registered a shot.

Heading into the final 10 minutes of overtime, Wooster's Liz Kantra put a shot on frame, the only such one in the second overtime for the Scots as the clock came to an end, producing a well-earned draw for both squads.

Wooster finished the match with 14 shots total compared to the Presidents' 13. Eppler finished with five saves, including four in the second half of regulation.
The Scots are back in action at Carl Dale Field on Sunday, Sept. 11 as they get set to host Earlham College at 2 p.m.
