CoSIDA Academic All-District® Release (Soccer)

Mackenzie Goltz, a senior defender on The College of Wooster women's soccer team, was voted to the College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-District® Team, as announced by the national organization on Thursday. Goltz will now be placed on the ballot for Academic All-America® consideration.

The biology major, who sports a 3.95 GPA, is a three-year starter for the Fighting Scots, and is part of a backfield that's heading into Saturday's North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament championship having not allowed a goal in seven contests. Wooster's defense has been especially impressive the last two years, as the Scots have conceded 26 goals in 38 matches. Wooster's a remarkable 26-6-6 during that stretch.

Several signature internships headline Goltz's off the field accomplishments, and she most recently spent this past summer in Lynnwood, Washington. There, she interned at the Progressive Animal Welfare Society, and her key duties included supervising the baby bird nursery, triaging incoming patients, and participating in daily feeding and cleaning tasks. Previously, Goltz was an undergraduate extern at the Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife in Sanibel, Florida, and a rehabilitator at the Braveheart Raptor Rehabilitation Center near her hometown of Muskegon, Michigan.

This academic year, Goltz is aiming to categorize the symbiotic relationship between strawberry poison dart frogs and the bromeliads they use as tadpole nurseries for her Independent Study project. Elsewhere on campus, Goltz served as a class senator and on the Student Government Association's services and sustainability committee, and she's the former president of Greenhouse Club, a student-run environmental organization that desires to bring a sustainable consciousness to the campus community.

Within NCAA Div. III District 7 (Illinois, Indiana, Ohio), just 12 student-athletes were honored by CoSIDA, with Goltz being one of two from within the NCAC.

Goltz, and her teammates, take on DePauw University (12-5-2) at 7 p.m. at Greencastle, Indiana, in Saturday's NCAC Tournament championship.
