Senior Salute: Mila Zunich

Mila Zunich sidebar Q&A

Throughout the spring and summer, we'll be honoring our senior student-athletes with a "Senior Salute" series. Today's featured senior is Mila Zunich, a communication sciences and disorders major from Avon Lake, Ohio. Zunich is a member of the women's soccer team.

Q: Why did you choose to attend The College of Wooster?
A: I chose Wooster because of its smaller class sizes and the ability to know all of your classmates and build relationships with your professors.

Q: What does it mean to you to be a Fighting Scot student-athlete?
A: Being able to continue playing a sport I love while remaining involved in campus life and the Wooster community.

Q: What are some of your favorite memories as a student at The College of Wooster?
A:  Winning the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament twice and celebrating with my teammates. I also have enjoyed working at the Freedlander Speech and Hearing Clinic.

Q: What's the best part about being a student-athlete at The College of Wooster?
A: I can participate in both my sport and academics equally. I don't have to spend all my time on one or the other; I can have both.

Q: What else were you involved with on campus besides your sport?
A: I am a member of Wooster's chapter of the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association, Lambda Pi Eta, the Women's Athletic and Recreation Association, and I was in the Goodwill program house.

Q: Which College of Wooster faculty or staff member has made the greatest impact on you and why?
A: Dr. (Donald) Goldberg, who is my Independent Study advisor. When we switched to remote learning, I was overwhelmed often, and his calming and positive attitude helped me continue working on I.S. without falling behind.

Q: What other people or resources impacted your Wooster experience in a positive way and how did these people/resources set you up to be successful at Wooster?
A: Tessa (Hall) from the Writing Center has helped me with my Independent Study and graduate school applications. She is so knowledgeable and intelligent, while also being so trustworthy. She has helped me become a better and more confident writer.

Q: Tell us a bit about your Independent Study project?
A: I am looking at how speech-language pathologists assess non-verbal pediatric clients for augmentative and alternative communication devices and what specific variables are evaluated during the assessment process.

Q: Tell us a bit about something cool you did as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: Our soccer team had the opportunity to go to Iceland and play against three teams!

Q: Reflecting back on your time at Wooster, what is one piece of advice you would give your first-year (freshman) self?
A: Your time at Wooster will go really fast, make sure to enjoy all of it – the good and the bad. You will make lifelong friends at Wooster and make sure to appreciate all the moments with them.
