Senior Salute: Brie Jarrell

Brie Jarrell sidebar Q&A

Throughout the spring and summer, we'll be honoring our senior student-athletes with a "Senior Salute" series. Today's featured senior is Brie Jarrell, a biochemistry and molecular biology major from Springfield, Ohio. Jarrell is a member of the women's soccer team.

Q: Why did you choose to attend The College of Wooster?
A: I chose to attend Wooster because when I visited colleges, Wooster's women's soccer team was the friendliest and most inviting team I experienced during my college search.

Q: What does it mean to you to be a Fighting Scot student-athlete?
A: For me, it means that it is important to make a difference on and off the field and giving it your all for your team. This means both academically and personally.

Q: What are some of your favorite memories as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: My favorite memories at Wooster are when I am surrounded by my friends and teammates making the most of the four short years that we all have together. It's impossible to just name a few moments.

Q: What's the best part about being a student-athlete at The College of Wooster?
A: The sense of community between all student-athletes.

Q: What else were you involved with on campus besides your sport?
A: I am a member of the Pre-Health Club, a communication assistant, and a lab teaching assistant.

Q: Which College of Wooster faculty or staff member has made the greatest impact on you and why?
A: I would have to say both my Independent Study advisors, Dr. (Erzsébet) Regan and Dr. (Stephanie) Strand, as they believed in my research project and have been a huge support system for me during this difficult year as a senior.

Q: What other people or resources impacted your Wooster experience in a positive way and how did these people/resources set you up to be successful at Wooster?
A: The staff has supported me every year, and I want to say a huge thank you to the dining staff, as this year they have adapted to these difficult conditions effectively.

Q: Tell us a bit about your Independent Study project?
A: My Independent Study is about multicellular clustering in yeast cells and how that clustering ability allows them to have a fitness advantage in certain environments.

Q: Tell us a bit about something cool you did as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: The coolest thing I have done as a College of Wooster student is our team's trip to Iceland. It will be something that I always remember!

Q: Reflecting back on your time at Wooster, what is one piece of advice you would give your first-year (freshman) self?
A: I would tell my first-year self to enjoy every moment and play with confidence. The four years really do go faster than anything I have ever experienced in life.
