Senior Salute: Elena Hart

Elena Hart sidebar Q&A

Throughout the spring and summer, we'll be honoring our senior student-athletes with a "Senior Salute" series. Today's featured senior is Elena Hart, a studio art major with minors in film studies and history from Evanston, Illinois. Hart is a member of the women's soccer team.

Q: Why did you choose to attend The College of Wooster?
A: When I stepped on campus, I just knew that I had to go here. I know it sounds cheesy and overused, but it's so true. It was cold and gray (when I visited), but something about it still felt warm and homey.

Q: What does it mean to you to be a Fighting Scot student-athlete?
A: Being a Fighting Scot student-athlete means that you play the sport because you love it. I remember warming up at one of my first practices as a first-year and thinking that this was so great. I was lucky enough to come and play the sport I love every day with a team of people who felt the exact same way.

Q: What are some of your favorite memories as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: Recently, a powerful moment that a majority of the student body got involved in was the Black Lives Matter march. That was a beautiful thing to be a part of. I also went to the environmental protests. Those moments made me so proud to be part of this student body.

Q: What's the best part about being a student-athlete at The College of Wooster?
A: Having a support system. Coaches, teammates, and other student athletes all have each other's back like a family.

Q: What else were you involved with on campus besides your sport?
A: I spent four years contemplating what else I might get involved in, and here I am. I formed four clubs – I was the only member. I started a petition to make hot chocolate 50 cents rather than the asking price of the dollar. I have buried 24 gems around campus.

Q: Which College of Wooster faculty or staff member has made the greatest impact on you and why?
A: My coaches because they created such a positive environment that I couldn't help but dance.

Q: What other people or resources impacted your Wooster experience in a positive way and how did these people/resources set you up to be successful at Wooster?
A: I had four different advisors. They were all great. I am graduating with a major and not one, but two minors, due to all the successful time management skills.

Q: Tell us a bit about your Independent Study project?
A: My I.S takes the themes and ever-present issues of today's society and connects them to the style of the Renaissance and Classical Christian art. My paintings translate the concept of angels and saints to be more applicable in modern context, as well as making the statement that society is going through another rebirth.

Q: Tell us a bit about something cool you did as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: I was lucky enough to go to Iceland with the woman's soccer team in 2018. We stayed in Reykjavík and played a few games. It was a once in a lifetime experience.

Q: Reflecting back on your time at Wooster, what is one piece of advice you would give your first-year (freshman) self?
A: Don't leave your laundry unattended.
