Scots Take Opening Loss in Weekend Tournament

Abby Showalter ERIE, Pa. – The College of Wooster women's soccer team opened play in Penn State Behrend's Herb Lauffer Memorial Tournament with a 1-0 defeat to Fredonia State on Saturday.

The game's lone goal came early in the second half. Fredonia State caught first-year keeper Amanda Flory out just a bit too far and scored on a shot over Flory's reach from atop the left side of the penalty box.

Wooster (1-1) outshot Fredonia State (1-0-1) 13-8 but could not capitalize on several opportunities, especially in its scramble to tie the game.

The Scots had two open net looks in the 52nd and 55th minute, but a defender made a stop twice to make the team save. Later, Teddi Farson had the last, best opportunity to score with about three minutes remaining, but keeper Sabrina Suriani made the save.

The Scots kept Suriani busy as she made eight saves. Her counterpart, Flory, made two saves.

Farson, Miura WileyNaomi Mann and Katie Schumacher each recorded two shots on goal.

Wooster will finish out play in the tournament Sunday against Penn State Behrend, who blanked Baldwin Wallace on Saturday 3-0.
