Alma Holds Off Wooster in Tight Contest

Moore Alma College captured a 4-3 win over The College of Wooster women's soccer team on Saturday.

It was a high intensity matchup that saw four lead changes as Alma's final two goals of the game stood the difference.

Alma (1-3) knotted the game at 3-3 in the 66th minute behind a score from Lexi Russell. Almost four minutes later Lily Stephan hit the game-winner on a free kick from about 30 yards deep that sailed out of the reach of keeper Kyra Stief.

Wooster (2-3) had a relentless attack in the final 20 minutes where they took eight shots as Alma keeper Allison Bush made a number of highlight saves.

Wooster outshot Alma 23-17. Bush recorded seven saves, and Stief collected five.

Senior Kelsey Stone gave Wooster the early lead in the eighth minute. Shortly after a corner kick, classmate Miura Wiley found Stone who put the ball in the back of the net.

Alma then connected on two goals, one in the 11th minute and another in the 36th minute.

Stephan assisted on both goals as Paige Stephens scored the first and Meghan Pfile the second. That allowed Alma a 2-1 lead into halftime.

Wooster tied it 2-2 in the 58th minute on a well-connected pass from first-year Ellie Saguto and a header from junior Teddi Farson. About seven minutes later, Wooster retook the lead when first-year Hallie Krzys scored off a pass from sophomore Grace Gascoigne.

Krzys's goal was her fourth of the young season, having scored in the last three games. Farson tallied her second goal of the year and has scored in back-to-back games. Wiley and Gascoigne each lead the team with two assists.

This was Alma's first victory over the Scots in five contests.

Next, Wooster will hit the road and travel to Westminster College (Pa.) on Wednesday.
