Schumacher Scores Twice in 10 seconds As Late Comeback Stalls

BEREA, Ohio – Junior Katie Schumacher did her best to bring The College of Wooster women's soccer team back from the brink of a 3-0 deficit but fell a goal shy as the Scots lost 3-2 to Baldwin Wallace University on Wednesday.

Schumacher scored twice in a span of 10 seconds in the final two minutes of the match. She first scored off a corner kick and then scored on a free kick opportunity from about 20 yards out.

The two goals broke the program record for fastest consecutive goals which was recently set in 2018 when Erica White and Claire Davis scored 33 seconds apart.

Schumacher's goals made it 3-2 with 1:44 remaining. Wooster kept pushing but could not muster another shot in the game.

Sydney Rice scored for Baldwin Wallace first in the 23rd minute after a collision resulted in a penalty kick. Rice later scored again on a long ball in the 32nd minute.

The Yellow Jackets took the 2-0 lead into halftime and expanded the lead to three in the 74th minute on a strike from Ella Barth.

Baldwin Wallace outshot the Scots 15-10. Wooster keeper Kyra Stief made two saves in the loss.

With the result, both teams move to 5-5. Wooster travels to DePauw University on Saturday to open North Coast Athletic Conference play.
