Wiley Leads Scots with Hat Trick

Miura Wiley Senior Miura Wiley set the tone for The College of Wooster women's soccer team on Saturday. She finished with a hat trick and led the Scots to a 4-2 win over Wittenberg University in North Coast Athletic Conference action.

Wiley started her run right out the gate, scoring just 35 seconds in the contest. She took advantage of a defensive miscue from the Tigers and beat a defender and the goalkeeper for her first score.

Wiley again capitalized on Wittenberg's defense in the 15th minute. Wittenberg tried to clear a ball from the box, but Wiley played the ball atop the box and scored her second goal.

Sophomore Grace Gascoigne scored her first goal as a Fighting Scot to make it a 3-0 game before halftime. She was aided by Emma Jaros's first assist of her collegiate career.

The game quieted until the final 10 minutes when three more goals were scored. The first came to be Wiley's third goal in the 83rd minute. Junior Katie Schumacher had a shot blocked inside the box, and Wiley collected the rebound for the score as the ball hit the crossbar and went in.

Wittenberg got the final two goals of the game with one coming in each the 88th and 89th minute. Abby Sphar assisted both on free kicks from the right side.

Lindsey Magoteaux scored within the scrum on the first goal, and Sophia Grossman scored on a ball that found its way through the middle and to her open on the left.

First-year Amanda Flory collected the win in net. She posted a career-high nine saves.

Wittenberg ended up outshooting the Scots 20-15 and each team took seven corner kicks.

It was Wiley's first career hat trick, and she now leads the team with 10 goals, which is also a personal season best for the senior. She has scored five goals between the past two games after coming off a two-goal performance in a 5-2 win against Hiram

Wooster moves to 7-6-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the NCAC. Wittenberg, who entered the game tied in first place of the NCAC, moves to 6-7-1 overall and 3-2-0 in conference play.

Wooster finishes off a three-game homestand and will be on the road for the next three games. They travel to Kenyon College on Wednesday.
