Bencic Connects on PK to Send Scots Home Winners

Alexa Bencic MEADVILLE, Pa. – The College of Wooster women's soccer team narrowly collected another North Coast Athletic Conference victory Tuesday after defeating Allegheny College 1-0 in double overtime.

Senior Alexa Bencic picked no better time to record her first collegiate goal after Allegheny goalkeeper Kari May was given a red card in the box. Bencic went low and to the left and gave the Scots much needed points in the NCAC standings.

The teams played to a scoreless first half but not without some controversy.

With time winding down in the half, senior Miura Wiley sent a sailing shot over the head of the Allegheny goalkeeper and into the net right as the buzzer sounded. After some initial discussion, the referees waved off the goal.

In the first overtime, Wiley had a look with about six minutes remaining that was saved. Otherwise, the Scots outshot the Gators 4-1 between both overtimes and 18-17 for the game.

Both teams took five corner kicks. Goalkeeper Amanda Flory made seven saves to record the shutout. It was her first complete shutout.

Wooster (9-7-1) remains in the top four of the NCAC at 4-2-1. Allegheny drops to 4-10-1 overall and 0-4-1 in the NCAC.

The Scots have one game remaining on its regular season schedule. They host first place Denison University on Saturday.
