Senior Salute: Naomi Mann

Naomi Mann Q&A Throughout the spring semester, we are honoring our senior student-athletes with a "Senior Salute" series. Today's featured senior is Naomi Mann, a political science major from Carmel, Indiana. Mann is a member of the women's soccer team.

Q: Why did you choose to attend The College of Wooster?
A: I chose to attend The College of Wooster because of the support from professors, coaches, and other students. I am valued as a person, not just as an athlete or just as a student. I would not be the person I am without all these people.

Q: What does being a Fighting Scot student-athlete mean to you?
A:  Being a student-athlete at Wooster means getting to play the sport I love at a highly competitive level while getting to pursue other academic and extracurricular interests simultaneously.

Q: What are some of your favorite memories as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: My favorite memories have come from spending quality time with my team outside of practices and games as well as late night chats with my roommate. Spending quality time with the people I love is my favorite way to decompress.

Q: What is the best part about being a student-athlete at The College of Wooster?
A: The best part about being a student-athlete at The College of Wooster is being a part of a welcoming and supportive team. I can always count on my teammates to help me feel better after a hard day or to support me when I succeed.

Q: What else were you involved with on campus besides your sport?
A: I was a tour guide all four years, I participated in Moot Court as a first-year, and I was a teaching apprentice for a biomedical ethics class.

Q: Which College of Wooster faculty or staff member has made the greatest impact on you and why?
A: Dr. Karen Haely in the Philosophy Department has made the greatest impact on me here at Wooster. She was always extremely kind and helped guide me to realize my interest in bioethics, which is something I now want to pursue a career in.

Q: What other people or resources impacted your Wooster experience in a positive way and how did these people and resources set you up to be successful at Wooster?
A: My coaches have made a large and positive impact on my Wooster experience. They have truly seen me grow as a person throughout these four years and have pushed me to become the best version as myself as an athlete as well as a leader that younger players can look up to. Their constant support has allowed me to be successful at Wooster.

Q: Tell us a bit about your Independent Study project?
A: I am examining whether it is ethically permissible to deny individuals not vaccinated from COVID-19 in need of an organ transplant the ability to receive one.

Q: Tell us a bit about something cool you did as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: The Wooster women's soccer team went to Spain in May 2023. We travelled to cities all around Barcelona and got to play in three games against local Spanish teams. It was an amazing experience!

Q: Reflecting back on your time at Wooster, what advice would you give your first-year self?
A: Have fun and enjoy the last four years of playing soccer. Don't be too hard on yourself.
