Senor Salute: Lindsey Moore

Lindsey Moore Q&A Throughout the spring semester, we are honoring our senior student-athletes with a "Senior Salute" series. Today's featured senior is Lindsey Moore, a biology major from North Ridgeville, Ohio. Moore is a member of the women's soccer team.

Q: Why did you choose to attend The College of Wooster?

A: I chose to attend The College of Wooster because of its close location, small size, and competitive athletics. I wanted to take advantage of the Independent Study program as I plan to apply to veterinary school. I wanted to put myself in the best position possible, and research experience is a very important aspect of a veterinary school application.

Q: What does being a Fighting Scot student-athlete mean to you?
A: Being a Fighting Scot student-athlete means I am a part of a community of individuals who all strive to give their best on the field and in the classroom.

Q: What are some of your favorite memories as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: My favorite memories have been filling Kauke Arch with snow as a first-year, I.S. Monday activities, K9 Coach Class, late night organic chemistry study sessions with my friends, team bonding activities, and our team trip to Spain.

Q: What is the best part about being a student-athlete at The College of Wooster?
A: The best part about being a student-athlete at The College of Wooster is the built in group of friends that you have on your team.

Q: What else were you involved with on campus besides your sport?
A: I am a tour guide for Admissions, president of the campus chapter of the Beta Beta Beta biology honor society, a member of the Biology and Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Clubs on campus, am part of the Wooster Volunteer Network, and am a K9 coach.

Q: Which College of Wooster faculty or staff member has made the greatest impact on you and why?
A: Dr. Laura Sirot has had the greatest impact on me during my time as a Wooster student. Because of Dr. Sirot and the animal behavior course, I will always remember the importance of multiple perspectives in science and take that with me as I progress through my professional career. Serving as a teaching assistant for the K9 coach class was a particularly rewarding experience. That experience allowed me to assist both the College and the local community in addressing their concerns as dog owners.

Q: What other people or resources impacted your Wooster experience in a positive way and how did these people and resources set you up to be successful at Wooster?
A: I would like to thank the entire Women's soccer coaching staff - Geordie Brown, Wes Davis, Carly Eppler, and Les Sabo - for supporting me throughout my soccer experience at the College. In APEX (Wooster's center for Advising, Planning, and Experiential Learning), Jamie Adler and Carly Jones have been especially helpful when it came to applying for internships and helping with veterinary school applications and interview preparations.

Q: Tell us a bit about your Independent Study project?
A: I am working with the Kenney Lab at the Ohio State Agriculture and Research Development Center in Wooster. We are investigating the replication of the hepatitis E virus in the male reproductive tract of pigs and the implications that may have for sexual transmission of the virus.

Q: Tell us a bit about something cool you did as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: The coolest thing that I did as a student-athlete at Wooster was to take a trip to Spain with my team. It was such a great time and an incredibly rewarding experience. We had the opportunity to visit multiple cities in northern Spain and learn about the food and culture. We played three matches against Spanish teams and were able to learn about their playing style.

Q: Reflecting back on your time at Wooster, what advice would you give your first-year self?
A: My advice to my first-year self would be to get more involved in different clubs and activities on campus.
