GROVE CITY, Pa. – The College of Wooster women's soccer team took its first defeat of the season on Saturday with a 4-1 loss to Grove City College.
The Wolverines scored in quick succession of its two goals in the first half and their final two goals in the second half.
Grove City (1-1-1) snuck one just out of reach of goalkeeper Amanda Flory in the 18th minute to go ahead 1-0. It was the first of Emma Herrmann's two goals, who also scored Grove City's final goal.
Flory was then left to dry on a one-on-one as Grove City went up 2-0 minutes later in the 19th minute.
After halftime, Marina Hahn capitalized on a corner kick which soared to the back post and was headed in by the first year. Three minutes later in the 59th minute, Herrmann succeeded on a free kick from dead center outside the top of the goal box.
Wooster finally got one back in the 77th minute as Julia Struck had an opening down the side of the field and on her cross, found Caitlin Martin who found junior Charlotte Sefcik for the score. For Sefcik, it was second career goal for the Scots and first since her first-year.
Wooster had its chances as they took one less shot (16) than Grove City in the game. Wooster also had six corner kicks to Grove City's nine.
Flory played the full 90 minutes and made two saves.
The Scots drops to 2-1-1 on the season. They travel to Marietta College on Wednesday.
