WOOSTER, Ohio - The College of Wooster women's soccer team shutout Rochester Institute of Technology by a score of 3-0 in non-conference and Senior Day action on Carl Dale Field.
RIT (3-1-2), which made the second round of last year's NCAA Div. III Championship, had its fair share of scoring opportunities, particularly in the first half, with four shots and three on goal before Wooster (4-1-2) even took its first shot of the game in the 42nd minute.
The Tigers' best look came in the 56th minute following some defensive miscues by the Scots. However, Elena Onodera sent the ball off the left post and it rebounded into the field of play where, just over a minute later, senior Hallie Krzys got a good crossing pass from senior Maggie Stieby and netted a goal for the second time this season.
Krzys' goal proved to be the eventual game-winner, but the Scots were not done yet. A free kick in the 77th minute had the ball banging around the penalty area and first-year Annie Henegar was in the right place at the right time to put a rebound in the back of the net for her North Coast Athletic Conference-leading fifth goal of the season.
An 84th minute penalty kick really sealed the deal for Wooster as Krzys sent a dribbler into the left corner of the net for the final score of the afternoon. Krzys' brace marked the senior's fourth multi-goal collegiate game.
RIT had the slight advantage in shots 14-12, but the Scots had the edge in shots on goal 8-5. Both senior goalkeeper Amanda Flory and RIT's Emily Sanchez recorded five saves.
Wooster continues its homestand on Wednesday, September 25, when the Scots host Baldwin Wallace University (5-3-0) in non-conference action at 5 p.m.
