With under two minutes remaining senior Alyssa Lubba scored the game-winner for The College of Wooster women's soccer team who defeated John Carroll University 3-2 on Saturday.
Hallie Krzys assisted on the goal as the senior had herself a day despite rain pouring for the duration of the game. Krzys was involved in each of Wooster's goals, scoring the first two and assisting on the last.
Krzys found Lubba in front of a muddy goal box as Lubba slid into the ball to score with 1:42 left on the clock.
Wooster held off a tough John Carroll team in the final minutes to secure the win. John Carroll (4-5) reached the quarterfinals of the NCAA DIII Championships last season.
The Blue Streaks narrowly outshot the Scots 18-17, but Wooster took 11 corner kicks to John Carroll's two.
Wooster started the scoring early. Near midfield, Bella Crompton passed the ball to Mia Stoller who then launched a pass downfield to lead Krzys to a one-on-one with the John Carroll goalkeeper. Krzys promptly connected to give Wooster a 1-0 lead just 2:20 into the contest.
John Carroll responded in the 13th minute to tie the game at 1-1 as Abby Smith found Emily Patrzyk. Patrzyk was set up right in front of the goal to follow up on a potential score by Smith.
Later, Patrzyk found Sara Gennuso to make it a 2-1 game in the 44th minute before halftime. Again, John Carroll got close to the goal and connected with another score.
In the second half, Wooster was awarded a penalty kick in the 53rd minute after Julia Struck and the JCU keeper made contact in the box.
Wooster gave the penalty kick to Krzys, who connected for her fourth goal of the season. Furthermore, it was the 25th score of her career, which puts her in a tie for eighth in program history alongside Miura Wiley '21.
Senior Amanda Flory made three saves to collect the win in 90 minutes in goal.
Wooster moves to 6-1-2 and will travel to Muskingum University on Tuesday for its final non-conference matchup of the season.
